I got Fired!
"That much gathers more on
every plane of existence" is the first point in Charles Haanel's The
Master Key System along with the comment "that Loss leads to greater loss
is equally true."
So what does that really mean?
Well, the full meaning of that will be revealed to you by... your own
inner self as you progress through the 24 lessons in his excellent course
but here is a simplified version.
Like attracts like.
Wow, that's a hard one isn’t it? We have all sorts of platitudes that say
the same thing, birds of a feather flock together, if you lie down with
dogs you get up with fleas, and many more but the point is, it's a fact.
Like attracts like is actually a Law of Nature.
Now I know al the mis-matchers on the planet are saying "no, you are
wrong" because they subscribe to the "opposites attract" perspective, but
that is all it is, a perspective. The attraction of North to South poles
in a magnetic field is the magnetic attraction occurring. Magnetic
attracts magnetic (or something in sympathy with "magnetic") as a magnet
does NOT attract wood, glass, and a multitude of other materials. The Law
still holds true.
If we accept this Law as being valid, how do we make use of it in a
beneficial way?
I wish I could give you a simple one-liner that would allow you to do that
but I can't. Because it is a Law of Nature (or a Universal Law) each and
every thing in this Universe not only OBEYS it but also MAKES USE OF it.
The things we see around us like Trees, Rocks, Cats, or Dogs obey that
same law just as we do. The entire Planet, yes the entire Universe is
subject to the Law of "Like attracts Like" If you drop an apple core in
the ground a Maple tree is not going to spring up from the seeds in that
apple core... an apple tree is. Dogs can't mate with cats (or human legs,
LOL) Fish can't mate with Birds, and so on. This thread holds true
throughout Nature as we understand it. Like attracts like on every level
of existence. But... there is one very important difference between all of
those things and Human Beings.
Human Beings are "conscious", they are capable of thinking. Not that they
always make use of that ability as many people in Managerial positions and
most Politicians prove, but they ARE capable of thinking. That ability
gives us, You, I, and everyone else, the ability to "make use of" that
Law.
What does that mean? Well, a tree cannot change the way it reacts to the
Laws of Nature. A seed from an apple cannot decide on its own that it want
to be a Maple Tree instead of an Apple Tree. A dog in the embryo stage
cannot decide to be born a Cat, nor can Humans change that aspect of the
Law, but, a Human CAN change the way they react to the world around them
simply by "thinking" about it and no other living thing (to my knowledge)
can do that. That ability to "think" gives us (Human Beings) the ability
to make use of the Law.
To put it bluntly, you attract what you think about. Here is where people
get hung up on all the things seemingly wrong with the world such as
Hunger, Genocide, and Poverty. We generally say to ourselves "I can't
believe all those folks that are starving to death are attracting that"
but, and I say this with compassion, they are, and in a later lesson I
will try to explain what I understand about those events. Also, because
you in fact attract what you think about, here is where it gets
challenging... at least the personal level.
Have you ever done something that you wish you hadn't and weren't sure why
you did it? I have, and I'll be t you have too. I now understand what
brought that action about but when it was happening I didn't understand
because I didn't understand the true power of the Law.
Other people’s energies (thoughts) CAN affect us and our actions IF WE LET
THEM. Those folks that don't realize they have control over how they think
"react" and those that do understand "respond." When you "react" the
resulting action is a result of existing thought patterns which come about
as a result of past experiences and teachings. But when you "respond" you
are creating new thought patterns in respects to that particular event or
experience along with drawing on past
experiences. There is a huge difference between those two and the results
attained. Personally, I would rather be a "responder" and not a "reactor"
because if I am a responder then I have control.
What do I mean by "I have control"?
I have a choice as to how I respond to any particular event. I can be
angry, sad, happy, relieved, frustrated, or any other emotional response
that I CHOOSE... as long as I remember that I control my thoughts.
For example if my boss come in and says "you're fired" I can, be angry and
attack him or her, be despondent and crawl into self-pity, or be thankful
and realize that there are now new opportunities opening for me. I know
from personal experience that the last choice is not only the best choice
but when you make that choice the Law kicks in. And I'll tell you another
secret about that event, it happened because you wanted it to. At some
level within yourself you are not happy with that job
(I really hated mine) and because that is what you think about the whole
time at work, the Law brought about events to have you removed from that
situation. Ultimately the Law works in our best interest. That may be hard
to accept but it is true. By the way, two days later (after I got fired
for disagreeing with a senior manager) I received an unexpected call
offering me a position (not a job) doing what I love (teaching in the
Private Sector) at a much greater pay level. The Law works in our best
interest. Admittedly not everyone is going to get fired from one job and
be offered a better one only a few days later. Sometime the Law is trying
to "teach" you a lesson... about yourself. Once again you can either
"respond" and do some soul searching that will perhaps bring about a
change, or you can "react", be angry, and go get another job you hate. The
choice is yours.
One more point, a tree doesn't become a tree overnight. With that said,
understand that the changes in you (inside) and your life won't happen
instantly either. We are a "growing" thing, just like a tree, and that
rate of growth needs to appropriate to us (personally) for us to benefit.
Sometimes that growth is painfully slow.
But...
I control how I think, therefore what I
think, and therefore what I attract.
And THAT folks is the KEY.
Next week we will begin exploring how to actually bring about Thought
Control in our own minds.
To your success,
Layard
Many people wonder if there is Evidence to
prove the "LAW" actually works. Well, there is. You can get an excellent
